Firm Profile
In Bangladesh’s legal service context there is hardly any scope for specializing in one or two practice areas. Accordingly, except for sole practitioners & small niche law firms, a large law firm tends to focus in much wider areas of practice, which are relevant and useful for a wide range of clients. In general, legal practitioners traditionally divide the practice into Civil & Criminal. In recent years, the perception has changed and clients tend to have recognized a new group of practitioners known as Corporate Lawyers. In the above context, attributed to family history of providing legal service in Civil matters and Taxation, Rahman’s Chambers from very inception decided to pave it way covering areas like land, taxation, banking and company issues, etc. Over the years, the firm grew and successfully entered into in other practice areas, e.g. commercial, admiralty, construction, corporate crime, etc. in a sense is now in a position to strongly claim itself as a a one stop legal service provider for business enterprises.
Rahman’s Chambers was founded by Mr. Mohammed Forrukh Rahman in 2006 following his family tradition that dates back to 1920s all the way to his grandfather, late Mr. Shamsuddin Ahmed.
Mr. Ahmed graduated from Presidency College, Calcutta in 1924, was awarded by Bangladesh Bar Council for completion of 50 years of practice life in 2003. Mr. A. M. Mustakimur Rahman (father), a tax lawyer, also followed the same legacy, who is presently associated with this firm as senior tax consultant.
Mr. Mohammed Forrukh Rahman, Barrister-at-Law and Advocate, Supreme Court, after graduating in law in 2002 from University of London and being called to the Bar by Hon’ble Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London in 2003, returned to Bangladesh and joined as an intern in the reputed law firm Lee, Khan & Partners (now dissolved) under the senior partner Mr. Moniruzzaman Khan, Attorney at Law, Barrister and Advocate, Supreme Court.
At Lee, Khan & Partners he received intensive training on corporate and commercial legal works. Later, Mr. Rahman joined as pupil of Mr. Ajmalul Hossain QC, and worked for him till early 2006 on banking, commercial and several other litigation matters and banking legal projects. In late 2006, Mr. Rahman joined his family practice under independent name and title i.e. M/s Rahman’s Chambers.
